SOUTH TAMPA BAY AREA TRANSPORTATION PARTNERSHIPS
2009 ANNUAL REPORT
January 1, 2009 to December 31, 2009
MONITOR, NETWORK WITH AND PROVIDE LEADERSHIP TO FDOT, MPO, TAMPA BAY PARTNERSHIP AND COUNTIES ON TRANSPORTATION ISSUES
This includes monthly
meetings with the Sarasota-Manatee Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO),
the Florida Department of Transportation, county staff and elected officials.
More specifically:
·
Garnered input
for Tampa Bay Regional Area Transportation Authority’s (TBARTA) master plan.
·
Coordinated the Long-Range (2035) Transportation Plan recommendations
for the Sarasota-Manatee Metropolitan
Planning Organization.
·
Attended and Participated in the Tampa Bay Regional Area Transportation
Authority’s (TBARTA’s) regular monthly Board Meetings.
·
Attended and Participated in the Sarasota/Manatee Metropolitan Planning
Organization’s (MPO) regular Board Meetings.
·
Working with our partners at Floridians for Better Transportation, the
Tampa Bay Partnership and, Tampa Bay Area Regional Transportation Authority to
identify other public/private funding opportunities for the transportation.
·
Our Executive Committee meets monthly in a casual setting with Stan
Cann (FDOT District 1 Secretary) and members of his staff to discuss
transportation issues and develop strategies to resolve those issues. Developed an annual legislative agenda that
we shared with our local delegation.
·
Coordinated a joint transportation forum meeting between the two
Chambers of Commerce (Sarasota and
Manatee) to review issues of common concern.
·
On Going Participated in the Outer Beltway Study
meetings and presentations.
·
On Going Participated / hosted the Coast-to-Coast
Corridor meeting.
·
On Going Monitor the need for a two-county
expressway authority.
·
On Going Develop agenda of issues.
·
On Going Skyway Bridge revenues monitored for
future usage in region and with TBARTA.
·
On Going Attended and sponsored Floridians for
Better Transportation annual conference.
MOBILIZE SUPPORT FOR ROADWAY PROJECTS
·
Assisted in key meetings with leaders to help accelerate New 301
widening and reconstruction from DeSoto Road to 29th in Sarasota
County via advanced reimbursement from the Florida Department of
Transportation. This was a “first” of
this type of financial arrangement for Sarasota County.
·
On Going A feasibility study’s scope by the Florida
Department of Transportation was expanded to include Manatee and Sarasota
counties on I-75 for interchange, express lanes and widening improvements.
·
On Going Built reputation of STARTUPS based upon
returning $50+ million for Skyway Bridge revenues to region. Supported advancing S.R. 64 east of I-75 to
Lakewood Ranch Blvd.
·
On Going Meet with leaders on transportation issues
and projects important to the region.
·
On Going Initiated a liaison with Sarasota
Chamber’s Transportation Committee – attending their monthly meetings.
PROMOTE PUBLIC EDUCATION
AND AWARENESS ON TRANSPORTATION

Conducted a
Transportation Summit on Public-Private Partnerships (P-3).
·
On Going Developed list of accomplishments.
·
On Going Supported motor fuel indexing to the
C.P.I. If changed, would bring nearly
$2 million / year to Manatee and Sarasota counties.

On Going Meet and confer with the media.

On Going Conduct executive and board meetings.

On Going Email Floridians for Better Transportation
weekly transportation news clippings to members.

On Going Conducting and promoting results of
economic impact analysis, press releases and promotion.

On Going Manage, record keeping (Manatee Chamber of
Commerce).
